TAMDA PLEDGES SUPPORT TO THE CLEAN DEVELOPMENT MECHANISM PROJECT AS THEY TAKE SUPPLY OF IMPROVED COOK STOVES

As part of Government’s agenda to combat climate change, the Ministry of Energy (MoEN) in collaboration with the Climate Change Centre of South Korea has entered into an agreement for the distribution of Improved Cook Stoves (ICS) under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Certified Emission Reduction (CER) Scheme under the United Nations Framework on Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC).

According to the Ministry of Energy, distribution of the Improved Cook Stoves (ICS) has been supporting the promotion and distribution of energy-efficient Improved Cook Stoves (ICS) to rural and urban households as a measure of improving the quality of life of the citizenry by reducing the dependency and utilization of fuelwood.

The Ministry of Energy intends to distribute Two Million (2, 000, 000) Cook Stoves nationwide of which it has only been able to distribute Five Hundred Thousand (500, 000) pieces in the first phase.

Twifo/Ati-Morkwa District Assembly took delivery of Two Thousand (2, 000) Cook Stoves on 17th August, 2021 and 23rd August, 2021 respectively. The CDM project required that Stoves be given directly to the beneficiaries and also be supervised by their two of their field officers, Mr. Kelvin Nii Kpakpo Adotey and Mr. Seth Sylvester Dadzie. The distribution team also had the support of the Staff of the Twifo/Ati-Morkwa District Assembly.

The Improved Cook Stoves (ICS) were distributed to over Sixty (60) communities in the District which was not enough, seeing how large the District is. However, citizens who received were in great joy and they promised to be strong advocators of the CDM project.

The Honorable District Chief Executive for the Twifo/Ati-Morkwa District, Robert Agyemang-Nyantakyi was hopeful the district will receive another batch soon.
