Statistics Department
Mandate
The Statistics Department is established at District Assembly as per Second Schedule of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).
Vision
The District Statistics Department aspires to provide reliable and responsive statistical services for good governance and development.
Mission
To harness, produce and manage quality local level statistics based on national standards using competent staff for evidence-based decision making in support of local and national development.
Objectives of Establishment
(a) Enhance the use of statistics for evidence-based decision making.
(b) Harmonize concepts, methods, and classification used in the productino of statistics at all levels.
(c) Assist the Metropolis to mobilize revenue for development.
(d) Systematize the collation of administrative data across sectors and geographical units.
(d) Reinforce the coordination of statistics generation, compilation, analysis, storage and dissemination across departments within the Metropolis.
(e) Strengthen capacity of statistical staff at the Metropolis.
(d) Engender statistical literacy among stakeholders.
Core Function and Responsibilities
The Statistics Department in the District Assembly shall:
- Collect, compile, store and analyze data based on standardized formats developed by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS)
- Disseminate and publish statistical data based on guidelines developed by the GSS.
- Prepare and submit annual reports for its operations in the District.
- Provide inputs for the preparation of the District Assembly’s budget.
- Generate the data requirements for the Metropolitan Assembly on all departments for planning activities
- Coordinate District statistical activities to serve as a repository of data in the District.
- Provide timely data for incorporation into district, regional and national level statistical analysis..
- Promote Statistical Literacy and Research
- Monitor statistical surveys and enquiries within the District.
- Advise the Assembly on all matters relating to Statistics.
- Respond to data requests from stakeholders and the general public..
