DISTRICT SECURITY COUNCIL TAKES ACTION TO PROTECT WATER BODIES AND THE ENVIRONMENT

The District Security Council (DISEC) have embarked on two (2) separates operations to flush out illegal mining activities as part of strategies to protect water bodies, restore vegetation and protect the environment.

Until recently, the District use to enjoy clean water from the Pra River with serene ecological environment, until the advent of illegal mining activities was introduced into the District.

The Chairman of DISEC and other members including the District Police Commander, DSP Charles Addae-Boateng, the District Officer of NIB, Mr. Felix Kwoffie, DOII Dorinda Ackah, the District Fire Officer together with twenty (20) other ranks took the fight against illegal miners in Kotokye, Mmabaasa, Darmang Dadaa.  In the process, mining equipment were seized and some arrest were made.

Commenting on the operation, the Hon. District Chief Executive, Robert Agyemang-Nyantakyi promised to ensure that the fight was sustained until the integrity of water bodies were restored in the district.

He encouraged all stakeholders; Nananom, Religious Heads, Assembly Members and the entire citizenry to support government to win the fight against destruction of Water Bodies and the environment.
