THE TWIFO/ATI-MORKWA RICE FARMERS JOINS GHANA RICE INTER-PROFESSIONAL BODY

The Twifo/Ati-Morkwa Rive Farmers Association on 29th September, 2020 joined the Ghana Rice Inter-Professional Body (GRIB). The main objective for joining the Association was to unify and solicit support from every necessary organization or government body to enhance massive rice production and cater for the welfare of the rice farmers in the District and the nation at large.

Mr. Isaac Ampofo, the Regional Secretary for GRIB, said at the association’s first meeting that rice was one of the best crops that could compete with the economic potencies of cocoa. He elaborated that cocoa was an annual crop while rice could be harvested three (3) times a year, hence, the solid economic returns from rice as opposed to Cocoa. He therefore encouraged the farmers to join forces with GRID in order to enjoy a uniform benefit, wherever they may come from.

Mr. Alfred Otoo, the District Director for Agriculture for the Twifo/Ati-Morkwa District on his part encouraged the farmers and sensitized them on the need to belong to a group or an association. He assured them of his full support and welcomed them as members of the group. An election was thereafter conducted to elect district executives for the association.
