The district distributes disability Common Fund grants and items to beneficiaries.

In a bid to support persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the district, the local assembly, through its Social Welfare and Community Development Department, has distributed the 29th and 30th batches of the disability share of the Common Fund. The initiative, aimed at empowering selected beneficiaries, included both financial grants and essential items to improve their livelihoods.

During a brief ceremony, district officials emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the inclusion and welfare of PWDs. The department carefully selected beneficiaries based on need assessments and provided them with tailored support to enhance their economic and social well-being. Some received cash grants to boost their businesses, while others were given tools, equipment, and mobility aids to enhance their independence.

Speaking at the event, the District Chief Executive (DCE) reiterated the assembly’s dedication to supporting PWDs in becoming self-reliant. “This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to empower persons with disabilities, ensuring they have the resources needed to lead dignified and productive lives,” the DCE stated.

The Social Welfare Officer urged recipients to use the grants and items for their intended purposes, emphasising that the department will continue to monitor their progress.

The disability share of the Common Fund is a government policy designed to provide financial and material support to PWDs across the country. Through this initiative, the district assembly aims to enhance social inclusion and economic empowerment for persons with disabilities.
