INAUGURATION OF THE ELEVENTH ASSEMBLY
Across the districts and regions of Ghana two hundred and fifty-nine (259) out of two hundred and sixty-one (261) Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s) were on Monday 12th February, 2024 inaugurated for a four-year tenure aimed at fostering local development and governance of which the Twifo/Ati-Morkwa District Assembly observed a likewise ceremony at its forecourt.
The ceremony began with an opening prayer from the district’s budget officer Mr. Owusu Ansah, having it officiated by Mr. Bernard Koomson. In attendance was the NPP parliamentary aspirant, honourable Obeng Dwamena, Hon. David Vondee (Member of Parliament, Twifo/Ati-Morkwa), District Chief Executive Hon. Robert Agyemang Nyatakyi, District Coordinating Director Mr. Awal A.M. Suhuyini, District Director of Education Mrs. Augustina Atakora, His Lordship Maxwell Kpodo (Chief Magistrate), Mr. Ebenezer Acquah (Executive Commission of Lands), Twifomanhene representative of Mampong Nana Amoo II, Public Relations and Complaints Committee and some sections of the general public.
Hon. Robert Agyemang-Nyantakyi, the District Chief Executive of the Twifo/Ati-Morkwa District Assembly in his opening remarks, congratulated all Assembly and Unit committee members for coming out victorious in the District Level Elections (DLE’s) at their various electoral areas. He encouraged reelected members to cease the opportunity of being reelected to bring to bear their experiences and for the newly elected and appointed ones to tap into the rich experiences of old members so together they build the district. Also, he urged the assembly members to establish close contact with their various electorates and collate the views and opinions of the electorates by meeting them before and after every assembly sitting. He congratulated them once again and encouraged them to be ready to assist the district assembly to ensure development within the district.
The representative of the President of the Republic of Ghana, graced the occasion with his presence. In delivering his speech, he congratulated all assembly members at the gathering. He went on to say that, in order for governance to prevail, the inaugurates must strive to be more productive and competitive in serving and representing the electorates. He added that, every elected or appointed member must understand the duty for which they have been called into. He also said that, government would continue to distribute available resources so as to ensure development in all the districts and within the country. He finally added that, to move Ghana beyond aid, a positive attitude would be required.
The gathering moved to the Assembly Hall to elect the presiding member and other committee members. The District Assembly went to the polls with two (2) nominees. Neither of the two candidates was unable to pull two-thirds (2/3) of the expected votes casts for both first and second round. The sitting was adjourned for a re-election in ten (10) days.
