Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is a prerequisite to entry into any second cycle institution.
On Thursday 12th June, 2025, Hon. Isaac Yawson the District Chief Executive for the Twifo/Ati-Morkwa district, visited some BECE centres within the district. They include Nuamakrom Centre and Twifo Praso Centre A & B.
Madam Gifty Teye, the supervisor for the Nuamakrom centre of the Nuamakrom Basic School, expressed contentment to the turn out of this year’s examination compared to last year. In this year’s examination, the centre recorded three hundred and seventy-seven (377) candidates of which two hundred (200) are boys and one hundred and seventy-seven (177) are girls with three (3) absentees.
In all, a total of three hundred and seventy-four (374) candidates were able to sit successfully since the commencement of the BECE. In the area of persons with disability, the centre recorded one (1) male candidate. At the Nuamakrom centre, twenty (20) schools were reported to be present at the centre, occupying thirteen (13) classrooms supervised by thirteen (13) invigilators.
In an address by the DCE, he shared experiences of his prime when he wrote his BECE in 1998 at the Twifo Praso Senior High School (TWIPASS). “Hard work, dedication and focus towards continual studies has paid off and has brought me this height of national recognition”, this he said as he addressed the gathering of BECE candidates. He being a teacher knows what the requirements of the exams are and they are not demanding as perceived by many students’, consequently, they should desist from examination malpractices as such could result in the cancellation of their exam papers, this he advised.
Also, he advised that with the existence of the Free SHS, all candidates should thrive for excellence so they can be better placed in schools of their choice.
Hon. Yawson proceeded to Twifo Praso Senior High School, the oldest second cycle institution in the district. The school hosts two (2) BECE centres, Centre A and B.
With centre “A”, it hosted eight (8) schools with a candidate population of three hundred and eight (308) of which one hundred and fifty-seven are males and one hundred and forty-eight are females, with three absent candidates. The centre is supervised by Michael K. Brown, and assisted by Mr. Osei.
