Otwekrom D/A school is among the one hundred and one (101) public schools which is situated in the Otwekrom-adiya community of the Twifo/Ati-Morkwa district which has sixty (60) pupils and five (5) teachers to its credit.
On Saturday 19th April, 2025 the schools three-classroom block collapsed to its feet following a heavy storm that swept across the community.
In a swift response to the storm damage, on Monday 6th May, 2025, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Twifo/Ati-Morkwa District, Hon. Isaac Yawson, together with the Presiding Member, Hon. Daniel Agbodza and the District Director of Education, Mrs. Augustina Atakorah donated twelve (12) packets of roofing sheets, five (5) boxes of three (3) inches nails, ten (10) boxes of four (4) inches nails, and five (5) roofing silicon glues, to leaders of the community on behalf of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the district, Hon. David T.D Vondee. This was to support the construction of a temporary learning space while plans for a permanent classroom block are finalized.
The proactiveness of the community was highlighted by Hon. Yawson, pledging governments support to securing the community a permanent classroom block. As such district will explore every avenue provided by the government in completing classroom blocks that have been abandoned in some communities by the previous administration, this he said.
In furtherance of the event, the District Director of Education (DDE) emphasized on how expedient academic studies is to her. Fuels meant for intraregional trips are sacrificed for inter district monitoring exercises which she believed is geared to encouraging teachers and pupils in interior communities to take up academic work seriously.
She solicited for support from leaders, elders and parents of the community to ensuring that her sacrifices yield a productive outcome. “Education is and has been and will forever be a major contributor to the development of a community, lets help our children become prominent members of our nation whose services will be needed when the time comes, just as I have become today”. This she said as she addressed the gathering.
In response to her plea, the headmaster, Mr Offei, lamented on the low pupil attendance at the school indicating that notices were sent to parents to aid in increasing pupil attendance by setting their children up for school.
Mrs. Atakorah commended the Church of Pentecost for giving out their premises as a temporal place of academic studies.
Nana John Akumin, the elder of the community on behalf of the people of Otwekrom-adiya poured praises of appreciation on the MP, DCE, PM and DDE for responding to the community’s needs in such a short notice.
Madam Adwoa Donkor known as “the heroine of education” at the community who dedicated her time, resources and energy to hosting newly transferred staff of the education service and ensuring their comfortability rallied for support from community leaders and parents to invest their effort in growing the school.
The Presiding Member, Hon. Daniel Agbodza donated ten (10) school uniforms to pupil in the lower primary of Otwekrom-adiya basic school as support to towards the school’s growth.
