ORIENTATION AND TRAINING FOR NEWLY POSTED NATIONAL SERVICE PERSONNEL
NSS is a government program under the ministry of education to mobilize graduates who are eighteen (18) years and above and dispatch them to both private and public organizations to implement knowledge acquired in their years of study in various tertiary level of education and acquire practical knowledge and skills.
There are however various categories to the NSS posting; they include employed and non-sub vented category. The Employed Category consists of a structural monthly allowance or percentage by a service personnel into the coffers of the service scheme. Whilst the non-sub vented category comprises of Personnels being paid by their sector organization.
Mr. Appiah the NS Director for the district hinted on the new way of validation which is the biometric system of validation which commences at the middle of every month. He encouraged all personnel to fill their forms on time so they may be verified on time for payment.
In the area of issuance of certificates, “it is no longer in the hands of the secretariat but a private contractor who makes distribution based on one’s area of choice of receipt. A link will be sent to personnels getting to the end of their service of which they will be required to input details relating to their area of availability for claim of certificates”, this he said.
In channeling their grievances, personnels should make use of the leadership of NSP’s to make appropriate complaints as such can help in addressing critical issues of concerns. Personnels must abide by the schemes code of ethics by ensuring that they adhere to the standards set by their posted organization and not absent themselves indiscriminately at work.
Mr. Awal A.M. Suhuyini addressed personnel at the gathering, he charged them to be agents of change in their various place of work, be proactive and cease opportunities in the learning of new stuffs and involve themselves mostly in work and community activities. He further on called on them to support the district in its mobilization of funds.
He encouraged them to be proud of the services they are rendering to the nation and be examples in speech, dressing and conduct. In the heat of an election year, he advised them not to be political puppets by allowing themselves to be used by desperate politicians in the quest for political power. In furtherance of the gathering Mrs. Nyamekye the Human Resource Manager of the District Education Directorate described how relevant national service activities are as it moves people from their place of comfort to an environment that challenges them to think outside their comfort zones and come up with key ideas necessary to building a nation. Personnel should adjust themselves to whatever environment they find themselves and allow organizational systems go through them.
