On Friday 30th May, 2023, Honourable Robert Agyemang Nyantakyi, the District Chief Executive of the Twifo/Ati-Morkwa District in the Central Region, received a team of optometrist led by Dr. Daniella from the Dunkwa Offin Hospital into Bepobeng Community a suburb of the Twifo/Ati-Morkwa District to have the eyes of members of the community checked.
Dr. Daniella Nana Yaa expressed concerns about the rise in eye infections in the area. It is of this that she together with her team visited the Community to organize a free eye screening exercise for them and to educate them on the need to have regular eye checks. She advised that breastmilk is not a substitute for eyecare, “all persons with eye issues should visit the nearest hospital like the Twifo Praso Government Hospital or a licensed eye clinic for a better eyecare as personal eye treatment could result in blindness” she said. She further went on to state that mothers may have infection which can result in an easy transfer of diseases when breastmilk is administered to ones eye thereby escalating ones health issues.
In regards to ones eyecare, she disclosed that using light bulbs of different colors simultaneously at the various homes, religious grounds, hotels and even offices are other prevalent causes of eye problems. Smoke is a contributing factor to eye problems and could also be hereditary she said. This however calls for a constant check of ones optics as the eye is the gateway to the body she added.
The DCE also added his voice by encouraging netizens to partake in the eye training exercise no matter their ages and pledged support to the team of optometrist.
